What is Hirameki

What is Hirameki

Reminiscent of the 80s hit TV series Catchphrase in which you were encouraged to ‘Say what you see’, Hiramkei demands you ‘DRAW what you see!'

Don’t let your imagination be a childhood flash in the pan, feed it with this unique way of creating art - Hirameki. The Japanese translation is actually ‘Flash of inspiration’ and this is exactly what it inspires.

Perfect if you are bored of simply colouring inside the lines and a must have if you see unicorns in clouds. This leads us nicely onto the phenomenon which is Pareidoliam, involving an image or a sound wherein the mind perceives a familiar pattern of something where none actually exists. In layman’s terms – a cloud that may look (in your mind’s eye) like a dragon dancing under an umbrella for example!

The Hirameki Book is filled with page after page of random blobs, colourful splashes and smears all waiting for you to bring them to life with your pen or pencil. It all boils down to your interpretation of the shape, even the smallest splash can be easily turned into something wonderful.

There are no rights or wrongs, just create what your mind sees – add 2 wings, a beak and plenty of feathers to a smudge and you have a chicken…Its fun for any age, doodle over the splodges and let imaginations run free.

Download our FREE Hirameki page and have a go yourself, we think you’ll be hooked in no time!
