How to Prepare Your Kids to Go Back to School After Christmas

How to Prepare Your Kids to Go Back to School After Christmas

School holidays go by far too quickly, especially at Christmas. One minute you’re unwrapping presents, and the next you’re packing the school bags and lunch boxes again. Now you’re beginning to repack the school bags, are you starting to notice a few things have gone missing? There’s no eraser in your child’s pencil case; there are hardly any pencils either. A lot of school equipment disappears during the school term. Restocking on the back to school essentials is a must before January. Luckily, you can get everything at Ryman! We’ve created this handy checklist for you to make things as stress-free as possible.

New Stationery, New You...

Your kids won’t need a whole new stationery set, but they will need a top up of some items. Pencils, pens and erasers run out, exercise books become full, and more school work means more folders are needed. You can find the full back to school guide here. Now you need to make note of the essentials...

Erasers

Erasers get used a lot at school and are one of the first pieces of stationery to run out. Treat your child to a fun, new eraser this term. The Legami Scented Meow Kitty Eraser and the Legami Solar System Erasers will remove little mistakes, and allow your child to show their personality at school. If your child doesn’t have room in their pencil case for these erasers, then the Ryman Pencil Top Erasers are perfect. You can pop one at the end of your kid’s pencil and they’re ready to go. This pack comes with 10 erasers so you’ll have plenty for the term ahead.

Pens and Pencils

These always get lost, broken or run out of ink far too quickly. You need to be well stocked with pens, “I’ve lost my pen” is something teachers hear a lot in class. Make sure your child always has a pen to hand with the Paper Mate Pastel Flexgrip Pens. These colourful pens are super cute and will make school notes will look vibrant and help with revision.

Speaking of revision, your child will need highlighters for that! The STABILO Swing Cool Highlighters are perfect for making important dates, sums and names stand out. This pack of 6 has a range of colours available, perfect for coordinating notes. With exam season approaching, you definitely want to make sure your kids are well prepared to get their heads down and revise.

Pencils are also an essential you need to stock up on. We’d recommend buying multipacks for pencils. The Ryman Pencils HB Pack of 10 are perfect for school use. Not only can they be used to make notes in maths lessons, they can also be used in art for sketching. Your children will be well prepared for their lessons with these pencils!

Exercise Books and Planners

The first half of the school year is finished, which means a lot of exercise books have been filled. Now is the time to buy some new ones. There’s nothing more satisfying than having a clean new exercise book at the start of a new term. Silvine A4 Bright Exercise Books are perfect for school. They are lined and have plenty of room for exercises. If your child needs something slightly smaller to fit in their school bag, then you’ll need the Silvine Exercise Book 9 x 7 Inch. This one comes in a variety of colours and is ideal for children who have to use a smaller school bag. Make sure you remember to back the new exercise books to help them last! You can find instructions on how to back an exercise book in this blog post.

Older children may want to consider having a planner for school. Now they are taking more subjects and exams are cropping up, they need to make sure they are organising their time well. If a weekly planner works best for your child, then they will need the Eden Weekly Planner. It has plenty of room to add their subjects and reminders so they won’t forget anything.

Folders and Files

Your children will need a place to store all their school work from the previous term, and somewhere for the new one. We have a range of files and folders available to make sure everything stays organised.

For something light that can be taken to school, go for a Stud Wallet. It’ll easily fit into your child’s school bag and won’t weigh it down. It’ll keep all that homework looking neat and straight. However, it won’t fit in that many sheets. If your child needs something a bit stronger that can hold more paper, the Wild Bloom Ring Binder will work perfectly. It’s suitable for A4 paper and can hold a whole subject’s worth of work.

It’s unlikely that your kids will have the same subjects everyday, so they will need somewhere at home to store the exercise books that aren’t always needed. Having a magazine file for each subject is an easy way to keep school work organised at home. The Osco Bamboo Magazine File will neatly store your children’s exercise books and worksheets. You won’t have to worry about turning the house upside down at 9pm on a Sunday trying to find missing homework with this level of organisation.

Make sure you add these back to school essentials to your shopping list for the New Year, it’ll come around sooner than you think! You can find all your stationery necessities at Ryman, why not pick up some pieces for yourself too?
