Halloween Decorations Make Your Own Jack O’Lantern
October 10, 2018 / Inspire

If you’re looking for homemade Halloween decorations that are scary without the danger, then these Jack O’Lanterns could be for you. Made from paper and pens, there’s no fire involved so this is an ideal Halloween activity for kids.

Follow our step-by-step guide to make your very own spooktacular lanterns!

Step 1: Supplies

You’ll need an empty toilet roll tube, orange, black and green card (£2.99), a glue stick (£1.99), tape (£2.79) and a black marker pen

Step 2

First, wrap the toilet paper roll in orange card and secure using the tape.

Step 3

Take another piece of orange card and fold it in half lengthways. Use the scissors to cut slits into the paper from the fold line and wrap this around the toilet tube, again securing it with tape.

Step 4

Take the green card and cut a thick strip that is long enough to be stuck around the outside of the tube. Cut one side of the strip in a zig zag shape: this will be the top of the lantern.

Step 5

Cut two more strips from the green card. One of these strips will be the lantern’s handle, while the other will be stuck around the base of the lantern.

Step 6

Take the zig zag strip of green card and secure it around the top of the tube using the tape. Attach the handle by sticking either end to the inside of the tube and attach the green base by wrapping it around the bottom of the tube and applying sticky tape to the inner side of the strip.

Step 7

Now you just need to give your lantern a bit of personality! Use a black marker pen to draw triangular eyes and a nose onto the lantern.

Top Tip: Use the black pen to give your lantern a scary mouth!
